Wednesday is an American supernatural horror and dark comedy television series inspired by the iconic character Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series is a smash hit with Jenna Ortega in the title role, alongside a stellar cast including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen and Christina Ricci.
Master of photography Tim Burton directed the first four episodes of season 1 and served as executive producer, bringing a distinctly gothic feel to the series. The story follows Wednesday at Nevermore Academy, where she uncovers mysteries about monsters, murders and buried secrets from the past.
Tim Burton was previously offered to direct The Addams Family (1991) but declined, and his stop-motion animation project was also canceled. It was not until 2020 that Netflix officially confirmed his involvement in the series.
